Literacy

The speech pathologists at CommuniKids Speech Therapy are trained to help children build the essential skills needed for reading and writing success. Our therapy focuses on:

  • Phonological Awareness – Developing skills like rhyming, syllable awareness, and sound blending to support reading readiness.

  • Letter-Sound Knowledge – Strengthening understanding of letter names, sounds, and how they work together in words.

  • Word Decoding & Spelling – Teaching strategies to sound out words, recognize patterns, and improve spelling.

  • Reading Comprehension – Helping children understand what they read by building vocabulary, storytelling skills, and critical thinking.

  • Written Expression – Supporting sentence structure, idea organization, and confidence in writing.

  • Parent Involvement – Providing practical strategies to encourage literacy development at home.

Through engaging, play-based activities, we make literacy learning fun and accessible, giving children the tools they need to succeed. Our therapists have training in the Sounds Write and UFLI approaches to phonics.
